Compare the Subaru Crosstrek to the Chevrolet Trax

Subaru Crosstrek vs. Chevy Trax

There is no question that there are a lot of compact SUVs for shoppers to choose from, and the Subaru Crosstrek should be at the top of the list. Due to its versatile size, ample cargo capacity, and rugged off-road equipment, the rugged little SUV is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts around Toledo and everyday commuters. At Yark Subaru, we compare the Crosstrek against another popular competitor, the Chevy Trax, to show you how the Crosstrek rises above the competition with excellent capabilities, advanced technology, and a go-anywhere attitude you will love.

Performance

The Crosstrek blows away the Chevy Trax in the performance category. The Crosstrek comes standard with Symmetrical All Wheel Drive and a higher ground clearance, making it possible to explore more and venture off-pavement around Bowling Green. You'll need to stick to smooth pavement with the Chevy Trax. All-wheel drive is not an option, not even as an add-on feature, and the ground clearance is a full inch less than the Crosstrek, which limits the types of activities you can do. The Chevy Trax is also not recommended for towing, while the Crosstrek can tow up to 3,500 pounds, perfect for smaller trailers or recreational vehicles.

Design

The Chevy Trax is not meant to be in the outdoors, venturing off the beaten path. The overall design leans more urban and modern, while the Crosstrek is clearly designed to take on more rugged adventures. The Crosstrek has robust body cladding to protect from light impacts, and Wilderness models have factory-installed skid plates to protect the underside from mud, rocks, and water. You can also upgrade any Crosstrek model with aftermarket skid plates for greater protection.

Technology

These days, hands-free connected features are more important than ever. Not only do they keep Maumee drivers connected to the outside world, but they should also be easy to use and prevent distractions while driving. The Subaru Crosstrek has all that and more with a generous list of connected features. The base model has dual 7.0-inch touchscreens, but all other trims have a large 11.6-inch touchscreen with large, bright icons that are easy to see and use. There are also redundant buttons, so you can use the screen without taking your eyes off the road. Most Chevy Trax models have an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and none of the trims offer standard wireless charging like the top three Crosstrek trims.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Subaru is well-regarded for its advanced safety features as part of the EyeSight suite of driver assistance tools. As a family-oriented brand, they take safety seriously. The Crosstrek has earned recognition from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety for its excellent build quality and advanced safety technology. Here are just a few of the safety and driver assistance features you will get in the Crosstrek, but are either not available or cost extra in the Trax:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Automatic Emergency Steering
  • Lane Centering Assist
  • Rear-Seat Reminder System
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

Pricing and Trim Levels

The Subaru Crosstrek and Chevy Trax each have five trim levels starting from an economical base model and additional upgrades as you climb up the trim level ladder. Although the Chevy Trax is cheaper, it does not offer the same features as the Crosstrek. The most significant difference is the standard all-wheel drive on all Crosstrek models. The Chevy Trax is front-wheel drive only. Other differences in the technology, performance, and finishes are apparent, with the Crosstrek being the better-equipped and higher-quality vehicle.
